Last month, Jio and Airtel launched 5G services in India, and many Android users started taking advantage of them. Now with iOS 16.2, Apple has brought 5G support to India for 5G-compatible iPhone models.
Many beta testers were already testing 5G services in India with iOS 16.2 beta. Now, with the official release of iOS 16, all users can try out this service.
But some iPhone users have had trouble getting 5G to work, even after installing the most recent iOS update.
Here’s how to fix 5G not working on the iPhone on iOS 16.2.
How to Turn On 5G on iPhone iOS 16.2
Before I move forward to our title topic, I must tell you that after updating to iOS 16.2, you won’t be able to use 5G services directly. You need to enable 5G manually in the settings. Here’s how to enable 5G on iOS 16.2:
Go to Settings => Mobile Data => Mobile Data Options => Voice & Data => Turn on 5G.
There are two options. i.e., “5G On” and “5G Auto.”
5G On will use the 5G network whenever it is available, at the cost of reducing your battery life.
5G Auto will use 5G only when it doesn’t significantly reduce the battery life.
Here’s how to fix the battery drain issue on iOS 16.2.
For Jio 5G users, there is an option called “5G Standalone.” When enabled, it will use 5G for all activities on the iPhone. Airtel doesn’t offer such an option yet.
Once you enable this setting, reboot your iPhone and use the 5G services.
How to Resolve 5G Not Working Issues in iOS 16.2
There are several common methods that you can try to fix this issue. Here we go:
1. Make Sure You Have a 5G-Supported iPhone
The first requirement to use 5G on Jio 5G and Airtel 5G is that you must have an iPhone model that is compatible with 5G. The following iPhones support 5G:
- iPhone SE 3rd Generation
- iPhone 12 Series
- iPhone 13 series
- iPhone 14 Series
If you have any of these iPhone models, you will need to have an active Jio or Airtel plan and enable 5G in the settings. It will work.
2. Check If 5G Is Available in Your Area
FYI, Jio and Airtel have not launched 5G nationwide. 5G services from these telecom carriers are limited to some regions as of now. Here, you can check if 5G is available in your region or not:
If you are not in one of the cities or areas where 5G has not yet launched, you will have to wait until service providers launch their 5G services.
3. Ensure You Are on An Active Data Plan
Jio is offering 5G services for free as a Welcome Offer in selected areas, but an active 4G plan is required to take advantage of this offer. Jio offers unlimited 5G data, and it will not require a Jio 5G SIM.
Similarly, Airtel requires an active internet plan to use 5G services on the iPhone. There is no need to get an Airtel 5G SIM.
4. Turn Off “5G Standalone.”
If you are using Jio 5G services, you will see “5G Standalone” in Settings => Mobile Data => Mobile Data Options => Voice & Data
This option enables 5G only for all internet activities. In the event that 5G services are unavailable or down in your region, you will have issues using the fast internet services.
5. Reboot your iPhone
As soon as you install iOS 16.2 on your iPhone, you will see 5G options in Mobile Data settings. Even after enabling the 5G settings, if you are unable to use 5G on your iPhone, you should reboot your device and wait for at least one minute.
Now turn it back on and try to use 5G services. This may solve the problem.
